Hi.When I create a child template it's before anything has been created / developed. I've never moved anything from the parent and have quite a few completed projects that work perfectly.
This is what goes by default in every clean Joomla installation.

It is difficult for me to judge what is happening on your site without having access to the admin panel.
However, I repeat - I did not experience and do not experience any problems with this in J5.2 and earlier versions. Therefore, I assume that this is your local problem.
