FYI - if using Firefox, you must "force refresh" in order to see any changes made to CSS. It's driven me nuts for years.
Hold "Shift" then click on the refresh button in the browser.
Until you do, you won't see the changes you've made in CSS. I don't know if that's where you are having a problem, but it seemed like something that could help.
